2017 Volunteer Ireland Awards

Here at St. John Ambulance Ireland we are really looking forward to the 2017 Volunteer Ireland Awards, which are taking place on December 1st in the Radisson Hotel Sligo, the European Capital of Volunteering for 2017.

We are delighted to announce that two of our Volunteers Michael Cardiff of Ballyfermot Division and Susan O’Sullivan of Cork City Division have reached the top three finalists in the Safety & Emergency Services Category. Out of a total of 500 nominations and three groups from various organisations our two volunteers are among 30 other volunteers shortlisted to reach the final on December 1st. Each nominee, duo and group have a unique and inspiring story behind their nomination. One thing they all have in common is that they selflessly give their time to help others and help their community.

Separate to our entry to the Volunteer Ireland Awards our two volunteers have also been nominated for the Community Hero Award which is a special award to shine a light on those remarkable individuals who, year after year, dedicate their time and energy to supporting a community and voluntary organisation, club or association. The public will be invited to vote for their favourite Community Hero Award nominees online later this month.

To read more about why Michael and Susan were selected see the link below. We would like to wish Michael, Susan and all nominees the very best of luck, including Catriona McMahon and Kayla Cooley from the Community Crisis Response Team in Limerick.

Special thanks to Volunteer Ireland for organising this very special event and we wish them all the best on their 10th anniversary celebrations this year.
