Continuous training and development of our volunteers’ skills is of the highest importance to all in St John Ambulance Ireland. On Saturday 12 February 2022, volunteers from across the organisation gathered in our training centre in Dublin 4 for a national training and development day led by our director of training and development, Pam Skerritt.

Public access AEDs (defibrillators) are important tools to assist everyone in the event of a cardiac emergency. Our volunteers in Swords supplied and continue to maintain a public access AED in Main Street, Swords since 2018.
It’s based outside the Fingal County Council building. If you call 999/112, you need an AED, and it is close by, the call taker will give you the code, which is also shown on the side of the box.

Every year on 24th June, St John’s Day, members of St John Ambulance Ireland remember the work that they and their colleagues do around the world as part of the St John Ambulance movement.
Throughout the year, all of our instructors and administrators give much time to share the knowledge of pre-hospital care and safety both internally to our members and to the general public on external courses. The COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted the huge challenges health workers are currently facing globally. Working in stressful environments exacerbates safety risks for health workers, including being infected and contributing to outbreaks in the health care facility, having limited access or adherence to personal protective equipment and other infection prevention and control measures, and inducing errors which can potentially harm patients and health workers. In many countries, health workers are facing increased risks of infections, violence, accidents, stigma, illness and death.
